Teacher of Kemet
Mfundishi Jhutyms Ka-n Heru Hassan Kamau Salim is a teacher, author and spiritual leader based in Harlem, New York, whose work centers on ancient Kemet (Egypt) and African spirituality. Most of what is published about him comes from his own website and his books, and this entry draws on those, along with the African American Literature Book Club (AALBC) and his publisher.
According to his website, he developed the Kemetic spiritual house Kera Jhuty Heru Neb Hu on July 4, 1978. He teaches classes in Mdw Ntchr (the ancient Egyptian language) and Kemetic initiation, and his website also offers courses in Kiswahili and Ma'at philosophy, and spiritual study tours to Kemet and elsewhere in Africa. His website also lists him as director of the Cultural and Historical Program at the Genesis Museum of International Black Culture.
Spiritual warrior
He is a grandmaster in Kupigana Ngumi, a name for African martial arts taken from the Kiswahili for "way of fighting with the fist." His website says the term was first used in the early 1970s by Shah Mfundishi Maasi and Ngana Mfundishi Tolo-Naa. His teaching joins physical training with history and spirituality, with the aim of forming what he calls the spiritual warrior.
Books
His books include Mentchu-Hotep and the Spirit of the Medjay, a story drawn from ancient Kemet, and the poetry collection 7 Shades of Black.
